  • a 1-day hackathon and innovation workshop for Hawai‘iʻs aquaculture challenges

    the AquaHack is a workshop that brings industry leaders, stakeholders and students within the blue economy together to effect solutions for problems seen within their industries and/or those industries they are adjacent to.

  • AquaHack 2024 is a one-day event on april 18th, 2024. the workshop takes place in Kona, Hawaiʻi at NELHAʻs HOST Park.

  • anyone looking to create a business solution to a social and/or economic challenge that Hawai’iʻs ocean faces.

    ALL expertises needed:

    -students & researchers

    -business minds & entrepreneurs

    -biologists & marine scientists

    -engineers & technologists

    -data scientists & AI enthusiasts

    -designers & creatives

    -economists & sociologists

    Anyone who is studying or working towards a career in or are already in these sectors: aquaculture, agriculture, business services, construction, consumer services, education, energy utilities and waste, finance, government, healthcare services, holding companies & congress, hospitality, insurance, law firms, manufacturing, media & internet, organizations, real estate, retail, software, telecommunications and/or transportation

    7:45am - welcome

    8:15 - 8:45am - introduction: design thinking, ideation and innovation sessions

    9 - 10:30am - HOST Park farm tours

    11 - 11:30am - guest speakers

    11:30am - lunch

    12:30 - 14:00 - ideation session

    14:00 - 15:00 - innovation session

    15:00 - 15:30 - wrap-up workshop

    15:30 - 17:30 - networking pau hana

    17:30 - EoD - travel home

  • University of Hawaii employees and students should use their typical travel procedures and non-UH participants will have their travel costs reimbursed.

  • travel to and from your nearest airport from your home. everything else is covered (flights to Kona, food, beverages.)

  • yes. we require you to be there from 08:00 to 15:30

  • no! you do not need to be in or have your own business in order to apply to participate in the workshop. any one person, team, or startup are encouraged to apply.

  • there is no specific requirement for you to disclose your confidential information (including any trade secrets) or IP during or after the workshop. however if you do wish to share any information with us, the AquaHack team will ensure that all information is kept totally confidential and will not be shared without your written permission. If you do wish to seek guidance and mentorship specific to the sensitivities of your idea, there will be opportunity for this during and after the workshop in a private setting.
