Community Manager, Women In Ocean Food Africa

12-month contract position, with the intention to extend based on program continuation and funding
Remote within East Africa. Preference for candidates based in Tanzania or Kenya, due to proximity to key partners and program activities.

The Position

We are looking for a dynamic Community Manager to lead our Women in Ocean Food (WIOF) Africa activities. This highly visible contract role (initially for 12 months) will be the central point of contact for all regional stakeholders, including participants, funders, partners, and media.  The goal is to extend the position as the program grows. 

The ideal candidate is passionate about women-led businesses, entrepreneurship in aquaculture and fisheries, and is deeply connected to the regional ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Community Building & Outreach

  • Develop and lead a strategic outreach program across local, national, and regional levels to identify and support women-led ventures in aquaculture, fisheries, and ocean food systems.
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with key ecosystem players: startups, researchers, NGOs, corporates, and funders.
  • Foster a community of WIOF program participants and support their continued growth and visibility through regular 1-1’s agreeing milestones / KPI’s to drive success
  • Serve as the local connector for Hatch Blue’s Africa activities and drive regional engagement with global Hatch initiatives.

Program Delivery & Events

  • Plan and coordinate events (workshops, roundtables, demo days) that bring together women entrepreneurs and key stakeholders in the blue economy.
  • Support the design and execution of innovation studio activities on the ground, in collaboration with Hatch’s global team.
  • Provide post-program support to alumni, helping them grow and scale their ventures.

Marketing & Communications

  • Collaborate with Hatch’s communications team to raise awareness of WIOF Africa and its impact.
  • Engage media, secure press coverage, and explore local sponsorship opportunities.
  • Manage content creation in collaboration with designers and media partners as needed.

Administration & Reporting

  • Maintain records of community engagement and stakeholder relationships.
  • Prepare regular progress updates and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with local service providers for logistics, printing, design, and venue arrangements.
  • Handle light office administration and be the go-to regional contact for the program.

Ideal Profile

  • At least 2+ years of experience in community management, program coordination, or entrepreneurship.
  • Self-starter with a track record of independently driving projects and community initiatives.
  • Ideally has founded or played a key role in building a startup, social enterprise, or community-based business.
  • Strong knowledge of Africa’s aquaculture and/or fisheries ecosystem and relevant networks.
  • Passionate about gender equity, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience managing events and engaging stakeholders at all levels.
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of French, Portuguese, or other regional languages is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel within Africa and occasionally internationally.
