Our Story

Before 2017, there were no aquaculture accelerators.

1

The Vision Begins

Hatch Blue was conceived in late 2017 when co-founders Carsten Krome, Georg Baunach, and Wayne Murphy came together to provide specific support for early stage ventures in the aquaculture industry. In early 2018 they launched the first aquaculture accelerator in Bergen, Norway.

2

Scaling The Vision

The aquaculture industry and governments quickly recognized the value of this first-of-its-kind accelerator. Shortly after the Norwegian program, Hatch Blue launched an Irish program and in 2019 the first global program, headquartered in Hawai'i. To date, we’ve successfully completed over 35 venture programs around the world and offer various entrepreneurship programs - from incubation to scale-up.

3

Deepening Expertise

Turning accelerator sponsorships into fit-for-purpose services, Hatch Blue, in 2020 launched a specialised consulting unit. The consultancy covers all aspects of aquaculture and blue carbon, from industry benchmarking to due diligence support and technology innovation insight, with more than 200 projects globally to date.

4

Driving Industry News

2019 — Hatch Blue acquires The Fish Site, expanding its reach into aquaculture media and industry news.

5

Novel, large impact fund

Capital is required to nurture innovation. Recognising the need for Seed and Series A investments beyond an accelerator, Hatch Blue raised the €92M Blue Revolution Fund in 2022 and 2023. In a first-of-its-kind partnership in the sector, The Nature Conservancy became the impact partner for the Blue Revolution Fund. In total Hatch Blue operates three funds totaling an AUM of +100M EUR and has invested in +80 portfolio companies.

6

Building Momentum

Today, Hatch Blue’s team has expanded to over 30 full-time members spread across the globe. We are active across three business areas including fund management, consulting and venture  programs - with offices in Ireland, Norway, Singapore and Germany.
